The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) released the official data for the country’s industrial production in 2017. The figures show a 2.5% increase in comparison to the previous year, the first positive result since 2013 and the best result in the decade.

Such result, which consolidates Brazil’s path to finally overcome its protracted crisis, was built throughout the last quarter when the national industry grew 4.9%.

This positive impact came majorly from automotive industry that grew 17.2% in 2017, driven by exports of vehicles, frames and components to Latin America. This scenario opens new opportunities for UAE distributors of auto parts since Brazil is a heavy importer of automotive components for international car brands.

Food industry grew 1.1%, while capital goods and heavy machinery grew 6%. Another good news for UAE exporters interested in the Brazilian market, since this movement points to an increase in demand of industrial inputs such as aluminium, iron alloys, packaging, hardware, automation systems and furthermore.

Throughout the year, Dubai Exports’ Overseas Trade Office in Brazil has been developing sectorial projects to identify buyers and business opportunities for the supply of auto parts and industrial inputs.
