The demand for green products in Hong Kong and China market has been rising in recent year. As people become more internet savvy, more consumers are turning to online sources for the information of goods they intend to buy, offline channels remain a more trusted option, this also proved by a research done by Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) recently.

China and Hong Kong shared different preference in the usage of social media. For Hong Kong, consumer prefer to obtain information from Facebook and Instagram; while Chinese consumers would first consult Baidu when coming across something new and unfamiliar. Specially young consumers tend to pay more attention to messages pushed by official WeChat accounts.

The reasons for choosing greenery products are not just because of the flood of related information online, but more importantly, green products offers a sense of safety, organic, trustable production process. For Hong Kong people, there is even an “in-depth” meaning – to save the earth and for sustainable growth.

OTO Hong Kong recently attended a B2B tradeshow called LOHAS Expo. This is the leading trade expo for Organic, Health and Green Living products with the aim to promote LOHAS (Lifestyle Of Health And Sustainability) since 2012. Visitors and buyers looks for healthy and organic food as well as beauty products in the show. Many research suggests that Dates – one of the iconic products of UAE, provide many benefits including relief from constipation, intestinal disorders, heart problems, anemia, sexual dysfunctions, diarrhea, abdominal cancer, and many other conditions.  Few exhibitors there also highlighted fresh and dried dates in their booths.

Even though drinking Camel milk is not a habit in Hong Kong and China market, it contains elastin, Vitamin C, alpha hydroxyl acids, etc. which can apply to beauty product and adapt to market. It may also be a potential after the observation of OTO HK in the show.

With more greenery and organic products manufacturing in UAE, consumers may look for these products from Middle East, as an option for products made in Western and North Asian countries.
