After two years of contraction, Brazil largest retailers experienced a first quarter of growing sales and profitability, a trend that continued through April and May. According to the newsgroup Valor Econômico, the net revenue of nine large-sized retailers increased 14.8% from January to March when compared to the same period last year.

According to an unpublished research commissioned by MeuJos at the Ipsos Institute, online platforms already represent 42% of food delivery orders in Brazil.

Consumers use apps on their cell phones as well as the websites of the restaurants themselves. The survey heard 1,005 people living in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Porto Alegre, Brasilia and Curitiba. Of those interviewed, 57% have already ordered meals at home at least once. Among delivery consumers, 68% of them are considered 'heavy users' - that is, they use this service at least once a month.

In the analysis by region, São Paulo is the most representative, with a 75% participation, followed by Belo Horizonte (70%), Rio de Janeiro (68%), Porto Alegre (66%), Brasília (61%) and Curitiba (60%).

Such trends open new opportunities for international companies to invest in e-food platforms in the country, with outstanding return rates and growing demand.
